Stephan E. Weitzel
Steve Weitzel is a partner in the firm who devotes the majority of his practice to Corporate Law, with an emphasis on Mergers, Acquisitions and Commercial Transactions. Steve assists clients with respect to entity formation and dissolutions, corporate governance, succession planning, mergers and other business combinations, and asset and equity purchases and sales. Steve’s experience extends to transactions involving sales and purchases in diverse sectors, including the coal industry, telecommunications, manufacturing, construction, trucking and insurance. In addition, Steve has an extensive Estate and Gift Tax Planning and Probate practice.
Steve was born in Princeton, Indiana, and received his undergraduate degree from DePauw University in 1971, where he was a Rector Scholar and graduated with honors with a double major in History and English. While attending DePauw, Steve spent a semester at the University of Freiburg in West Germany. Steve received his law degree from Emory University in 1975, where he was an editor of the Emory Law Journal. While attending Emory, Steve spent a term at the University Exeter College of Law in England. Steve has served as a faculty member for numerous seminars and has written several articles on topics related to mergers and acquisitions and estate tax planning.
Steve is a member of the Indiana Bar Association, having served as Director of the Young Lawyers Section from 1979-1981. Steve also has served as a member of the Indiana Probate Code Study Commission. He is a member of the Evansville and American Bar Associations. Since 1984, Steve has been active in the Legal Aid Society, serving as president in 1992 and 1993. Steve has served as a Director of the Evansville Chapter of the American Red Cross, the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and the Evansville Dance Theater. He also served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Evansville Day School (President, 2004-2006), and in 2008, was elected as a Trustee Emeritus.
